Nature-inspired trapped air cushion surfaces for environmentally sustainable antibiofouling

چکیده

Feathers of seabirds and waterfowl (for example the mallard duck (Anas platyrhynchos)) consist hierarchical fibrillar structures encapsulated with hydrophobic preen oil. These characteristics afford waterproofing through entrapment air pockets, enabling swimming diving for such bird species. This liquid repellency mechanism feathers is mimicked by surface hydrophobisation fibrous nonwoven polypropylene textiles to create large volumes trapped at solid–liquid interface (plastron). Higher static water contact angle values correlate a greater resistance towards ingress (akin behaviour feathers). In order extend gas layer lifetimes, transportation from submerged bubble bell spider (Argyroneta aquatica) respiration via short duration (< 1 s) solar-powered bursts once every 2 h. combination ornithological arachnological inspired approaches yields stable layers which are shown inhibit biofouling in real-world outdoor wet environments.

The PTB Supracondylar-Suprapatellar Air-Cushion Socket

The patallar-tendon-bearing supracondy lar, suprapatellar air cushion (PTS-AC) below-knee (BK) prosthesis is a special modi fication of the supracondylar, suprapatellar suspension and the air cusion socket. The air cushion principle in combination with the patella tendon-bearing (PTB) prosthesis was introduced by Lyquist, Wilson, and Radcliffe (Fig. 1), (2) in 1965. It requires more accurate ...

Designing and Creating a Mouse Using Nature-Inspired Shapes

Human beings have always made their tools and instruments they need using patterns in nature. Mimicking nature has become the foundation of a new science called Biomimetics. In the present article, multiple forms and levels in nature were utilized to design and create a mouse. The rivers are a good source for choosing the shape of a mouse with lots of stones abraded through the centuries which ...

The rapid change of network topology is a major challenge in routing. One of the we...

Curvature estimates for stable marginally trapped surfaces

We derive local integral and supestimates for the curvature of stably marginally outer trapped surfaces in a sliced space-time. The estimates bound the shear of a marginally outer trapped surface in terms of the intrinsic and extrinsic curvature of a slice containing the surface. These estimates are well adapted to situations of physical interest, such as dynamical horizons.
